Free Radon Test Kits from the West Windsor Health Department!

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designates the third week of October as Radon Action Week. Radon is an odorless, harmful gas that can enter your home through cracks in the foundation or floors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer. The only way to know if your home has elevated levels of radon is to test. The West Windsor Health Department is offering free radon test kits for residents of West Windsor, Robbinsville, and Hightstown. You may pick up your test kit from any of these locations: West Windsor Health Department, Robbinsville Municipal Building (Clerk’s Office), or Hightstown Borough Building (Clerk’s Office).

In April 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health advisory for avian influenza. Avian influenza, also known as “bird flu” (H5N1) is a type of influenza virus that causes infectious respiratory illness in birds and can cause outbreaks in poultry and dairy cattle. The bird flu virus has been shown to spread to mammals, including humans, however inefficiently. The CDC is actively monitoring influenza data among people and has determined the risk to the general public low. The CDC recommends people avoid being near sick animals, animal carcasses, or surfaces contaminated with animal waste, litter, raw milk, and other byproducts. Do not prepare or ingest uncooked, undercooked, or related uncooked food products (such as unpasteurized milk or cheese), especially from animals with suspected or confirmed H5N1 virus. To learn more, please visit the CDC Avian Influenza Page and the CDC H5N1 Current Situation Summary.
